Save Money with ENERGY STAR® qualified refrigerators.
There are a number of ways in which ENERGY STAR qualified refrigerators operate more efficiently:
- More efficient compressors
- Better insulation
- Use at least 15% less energy than required by current federal standards, and 40% less energy than the conventional models sold in 2001.
They also provide the same features and benefits as non-qualifying models, like icemakers, side-by-side design and
through-the-door water and ice dispensers, while using less energy.
Did you know?
New ENERGY STAR qualified refrigerators use less energy than a 75-watt light bulb running continuously.
Refrigerator Energy Use
It can often make dollars and sense to replace an older appliance before the end of its useful life. Prior to 1990
many name brand refrigerators used vastly more electricity than current models. Click on the title above to find
out if it you should replace your current refrigerator with a new ENERGY STAR qualified model.
Freezers
upright freezer ENERGY STAR qualified freezer models use at least 10% less energy than required by current federal standards.
Qualified freezer models are available in three configurations:
- upright freezers with automatic defrost
- upright freezers with manual defrost
- chest freezers
Chest freezers are only available with manual defrost.
Compact Models
ENERGY STAR compact refrigerators and freezers use at least 20% less energy than required by current federal standards.
(Compacts are models with volumes less than 7.75 cubic feet.)
Commercial Models
