What is the Focus on Energy Renewable Energy Program?

The Renewable Energy Program encourages the adoption of renewable energy across the state of Wisconsin. The program provides information, technical and business assistance, and financing for customer applications of renewable energy projects.

What are the advantages of using renewable energy?
Renewable energy increases the diversity of the state's energy mix by tapping local energy sources. It also creates local employment opportunities and economic growth and can reduce the negative environmental impacts of burning fossil fuels while increasing your energy independence and reliability.

How does the program define customer-based applications of renewable energy?
For the purposes of this program, customer applications of renewable energy refer to energy collected and used primarily (more than 50 percent) on location at a home, business, institution, or other eligible facility. Renewable energy resources include:

Solar energy (solar electric, solar thermal, and passive)
Wind energy
Energy from biomass (wood waste, organic wastes, agricultural crops and their residues)

What types of assistance will be available?
The program has three components:

1. Information, Training & Education Technology - fact sheets, case studies, workshops, solar home and business tours, training and educational materials.

2. Program Facilitation and Technical Assistance - one-on-one assistance including providing technical advice and financial assistance, doing renewable energy site assessments, finding a contractor, helping write grant proposals, and implementing projects.

3. Financial Assistance for Qualified Projects

What types of projects qualify for financial assistance?

Purchase and installation of renewable energy systems

Cost-sharing grants, such as feasibility, business & marketing, or implementation grants.
